Will it hurt my 85-pound laboratory by applying a 40% zinc ointment in an area in the stomach and above the tail?

Each summer, ands eats chewing his ego. No chip and the "hot spot" medicine is not good. The vet gave me medicine contains mostly alcohol and I had to wash my dog after applying to him because I was burning. I erythema rash ointment that works very well for my niece but do not know if you hurt my dog. I am sure that at least a little lick. Any suggestions are welcome.

Try a mixture of equal parts of distilled water, Listerine and mineral oil. Spray once or twice a day.
