Basic Dog Grooming

Regular grooming of your dog is the basic thing every owner should learn. That will make your dog look great and happy.

Here are some simple but useful. Let me summarize in point form for easier to remember.

1. All dogs should be brushed once a week.

2. Basic equipment: dog brush, nail clippers, cotton swabs, shampoo the dog.

3. While washing, check the status of the skin generally your dog, eyes, ears, hair and teeth.

4. Make grooming session as pleasant and enjoyable for you and your pet as possible.

5. Brush the hair before bathing your dog. Brushing removes mats and tangles, removes dead hair and dirt. Brushing distributes natural oils that help produce tones healthy skin.

6. After brushing, check your dogs ears. The flop-eared dogs can be prone to ear infections if you want to check your dog's long ears, often. A simple solution for cleaning the ear can be made with one part white vinegar to one part water. Soak a cotton ball or pad in the mixture and dry your dogs ears. Use a cotton swab for each ear separately to avoid cross-contamination in case you have an ear infection.

7. Nails should be trimmed regularly. Excessively long nails will damage your pet's paw. Cut the nails until they are quite short when your dog can be full on his skates with nails having any of their weight.

8. Brushing your dog's teeth for healthy teeth and gums. You can make a natural toothpaste with baking soda and water. Wrap your finger in gauze and dip it into the paste of baking soda to gently clean your dog's teeth. If your dog has a lot of Tarter and plaque buildup, remember to make your teeth professionally cleaned before embarking directly on the tooth cleaning routine itself daily.

9. Try using Natural Dog Shampoo. Do not use shampoo on your dog to humans because the pH of the skin is very different.
